Mid-Century Modern Home Office Reveal and Tour

Welcome to the Fit Foodie HQ home office reveal. In this post I’m sharing our newly designed multi-person workspace styled in a mid‑century modern and bright, airy aesthetic. The room features open mid‑century shelving for photography props, a lush plant wall, plenty of modern décor, and a large macramé tapestry that helps define the space.

Home Office Room Reveal

It’s reveal day for our home office! I shared much of the process on Instagram throughout the renovation. While the space is nearly complete, a few finishing touches—new windows and phase two improvements—are still scheduled for mid‑December. I couldn’t wait to show what we’ve finished so far.

Construction

We didn’t need any major structural changes, but the room did require several updates to feel finished and cohesive. Work completed includes:

  • New paint in Pure White (SW 7005) by Sherwin‑Williams
  • Removal and replacement of baseboards and trim
  • Wall patching and surface repairs
  • Updated lighting
  • Styling and finishing details
  • Planned window and window trim installation*
  • Door refinishing*
  • Light switch replacements*
  • Heat register refinishing*

Looking over that list, it was more work than I initially expected. We removed baseboards and trim ourselves right when we moved in, and it took a few months to find a reliable crew to handle patching and finish carpentry. Our home was built in 1939, and our goal throughout the renovation was to preserve the house’s character while adding cleaner, modern finishes.

Mid‑Century Modern Office — White & Bright

The first step in styling the Fit Foodie home office was creating a mood board. I researched mid‑century modern designs and combined that look with a white, bright palette and lots of greenery. The aim was a functional, inspiring workspace that still feels warm and comfortable for the whole team.

After collecting inspiration, I pinned products and decor pieces that fit the mood. I’m grateful to Overstock for sponsoring much of the room’s furnishings; all opinions are my own. Their selection made it easy to pull this look together online.

Workspace

Multi‑Person Office Table

We chose a round, white mid‑century style table that fits three people comfortably with room for a fourth. The table’s wood legs and black accents tie in nicely with the rest of the room, giving a clean, modern silhouette without feeling oversized.

Mid‑Century Modern Office Chairs

We selected chairs that echo the table’s mid‑century legs to keep a cohesive look. The chairs are a light grey fabric with oak legs and are sold in a set of two—simple, comfortable, and perfectly matched to the table.

Bohemian Rug (White & Grey)

To balance the round table we used a rectangular bohemian wool rug (5′ x 8′). It’s handmade, soft, and understated—exactly what the space needed. A helpful rule for rugs under tables: leave at least a foot of rug extending beyond the table edge so chairs remain on the rug when pulled out.

Lighting

Sputnik Gold Fixture

We installed a gold sputnik fixture over the table to add dimension and mid‑century flair. The fixture uses Edison bulbs and has an adjustable drop—so we shortened the stem for our modest ceiling height and the scale now feels perfect for the room.

Office Storage

Buffet

A modern buffet provides essential storage for office supplies, styling fabrics, and our printer. It keeps clutter out of sight while maintaining the room’s clean aesthetic.

Mid‑Century Shelves

An open shelving unit was essential for organizing photography props. For years those items were hidden away and hard to find. Now they’re visible and easy to access, which saves time and sparks creativity for shoots and styling sessions.

Plant Wall & Planters

Shelves

Building a floating shelf plant wall was one of the best decisions for this office. The greenery adds dimension and makes the room feel larger and more inviting. We installed three 36‑inch white floating shelves that are sturdy, easy to mount, and perfect for a layered plant display.

Plant Wall

Favorite Small Pots

The plant wall is composed of a mix of small pots sourced from Overstock and a local Minneapolis nursery. We spread additional small planters around the room to maintain an organic, cohesive vibe. A marble flour pot on the buffet and a textured white‑and‑grey planter on the table are two of my favorites for adding subtle character.

Planters & Hanging Planters

To balance the smaller pots, we included at least one large indoor plant and a couple of hanging planters by the window. Hanging plants bring life and vertical interest to the room—more greenery always improves the atmosphere.

Decor

Gold Circle Mirror

A round mirror above the buffet helps reflect light and visually expand the room. We chose a 30‑inch mirror with gold and black accents that complements the other metallic and dark details throughout the space.

Letterboard

A letterboard is a simple, fun detail that adds personality to any office. We chose a 16 x 20‑inch oak frame letterboard that comes with letters and numbers to rotate messages or styling cues.

Storage Basket Planter

Woven storage baskets are practical and decorative, doubling as extra storage or planters. We selected a two‑toned natural basket that complements the room’s color palette and textures.

Wall Tapestry

As a macramé fan, I wanted a large woven wall hanging to balance the plant wall and make the room feel bigger. We installed a monotone, hand‑woven tapestry to the left of the plant shelves; its subdued palette fits the overall theme perfectly.

Pillows

Aztec wool‑blend pillows add a subtle pattern and warmth to the chairs. Since the room is predominantly white and bright, these natural‑colored pillows provide just enough texture and contrast.

Wall Decor Still to Come

Once the new windows are installed and the barn door is delivered, we’ll finish hanging the remaining wall art. For now, here’s a preview of the cactus prints we plan to install to complete the gallery.
