A Day with Fit Foodie Finds at Lorissa’s Kitchen

I’ve wanted to write a “day in the life” post for a long time because I love reading others’. It’s fascinating to see how different people structure their mornings, work, meals, and downtime. Today I’m partnering with Lorissa’s Kitchen to give you a behind-the-scenes look at a typical day at Fit Foodie HQ. I call it “typical,” but no two days are exactly the same—some days are heavy on recipe development and photo shoots, while others are filled with meetings, emails, editing, and planning.

Without further ado, here’s a look at a day at Fit Foodie HQ.

6:15 AM Breakfast + Coffee

I’m a breakfast person—no alarm really needed, but I do set one for 6:15 AM. Mornings start with coffee and a bowl of overnight oats I prepared the night before. Having breakfast ready eliminates excuses and makes it easy to eat something nourishing before the day begins. Even when my schedule varies, I try to keep breakfast consistent because it sets the tone for healthier decisions throughout the day.

8:00 AM Workout

Workouts are always evolving here. This year Team Fit Foodie committed to adding variety and trying new classes and formats—everything from local studios to home workouts. We recently did a total-body bootcamp from Healthy Glow Co., which was challenging and portable. Mixing up routines keeps us energized and helps prevent plateaus, whether we’re trying a new studio or following an online program.

9:30 AM Coffee Shop + Lorissa’s Kitchen Snack Break

After a quick shower, we often head to a coffee shop to work. Working outside the house forces us to put on real clothes and provides a productive atmosphere. This week we spent time at FiveWatt Coffee in Northeast Minneapolis. I always pack snacks for long days, and Lorissa’s Kitchen meat snacks are a staple. Their Szechuan Peppercorn grass-fed beef strips are a favorite: high in protein and low in sugar, they help bridge the gap between breakfast and lunch.

Lorissa’s Kitchen snacks are sourced and crafted with transparency. They contain:

  • NO preservatives
  • NO GMOs
  • NO growth hormones
  • NO added MSG
  • NO added nitrites
  • NO gluten

Each serving delivers 9–11 grams of protein, which makes them an ideal mid-morning pick-me-up after a workout. I especially appreciate that Lorissa’s Kitchen is woman-founded and Minnesota-made—values that matter to me as both a consumer and a creator.

1:00 PM Lunch

Lunch has become more intuitive for me—I eat when I’m hungry rather than on a clock. A protein-packed snack after breakfast stretches me through mid-day, so lunch often happens after noon. Most of our lunches are leftovers from recipe testing; we test recipes multiple times, so the fridge is always stocked. This week we were eating a kale Waldorf chicken salad we’d just tested, paired with chips and kombucha mixed with pomegranate juice.

After lunch we head back to Fit Foodie HQ to finish the workday.

1:30 PM Work Work Work + Dance Party

Afternoons are for calls, catching up on email, photo edits, and planning. I work from different spots around the house—desk, couch, kitchen table—whatever feels right. I like to create little inspiring nooks with greenery and geometric accents to keep creativity flowing. Mid-afternoon you’ll often find me taking a short break for a dance party or an Instagram story about intuitive eating or fitness real talk. Those quick resets actually help me stay focused.

3:00 PM Snack Break

By mid-afternoon I usually want a pick-me-up. Lorissa’s Kitchen snacks often make a second appearance—sometimes I’ll enjoy a bag on its own, and other times I’ll build a small charcuterie plate with cheese, crackers, and fruit. The Ginger Teriyaki Chicken flavor has a lighter, slightly sweet profile that’s perfect for an afternoon treat. Snacks like these keep energy steady and prevent overeating later in the evening.

6:00 PM Dinner

I aim to wrap up work around 6 PM and switch into evening mode. Dinner is usually leftovers from our recipe testing, but we do enjoy neighborhood takeout occasionally. Recently I modified a recipe to satisfy a pasta craving—turkey meat sauce loaded with sautéed veggies served over rigatoni. Cooking for ourselves at home is still our preference, and testing new recipes keeps dinner interesting.

7:00 PM Climb

Evenings often include a visit to the Minneapolis Bouldering Project. Bouldering is a fun, social way to end the day—it’s challenging and takes you out of your comfort zone. We climb with friends, cheer each other on, and it’s become one of our favorite evening routines. It’s active, social, and a great way to unwind after hours at the computer.

We’re hosting an event with Lorissa’s Kitchen at MBP in a few weeks, so local friends, keep an eye out for details.

9:00 PM Bathtime + PB Cup Love

After climbing I like a long hot bath to relax. I add Epsom salts, light a few candles, and sometimes tie fresh eucalyptus to the faucet to create a spa-like steam. I’ve been using a few favorite bath products and then I treat myself to a homemade peanut butter cup from the freezer. It’s a small ritual that signals the end of the day and helps me unwind.

9:45 PM Time for Bed!

By 9:45–10:00 PM I’m ready for bed. I aim to be asleep by 10 because I function best with about nine hours of sleep. My bedtime routine includes a lavender pillow mist and a white noise machine, which has been essential for better sleep. I’m a light sleeper, so those little rituals make a big difference. The last moments of the day are my favorite: a short bedtime chat with Mark, the lights off, and sleep.

And that’s a typical day at Fit Foodie HQ—full of food testing, movement, small rituals, and a steady stream of creativity.
