Bedtime Stretches for Sleep and First Look at the It Bed

I recently tried the it® bed by Sleep Number and I’m absolutely in love. This high-tech, budget-friendly mattress blends smart sleep tracking, adjustable comfort, and an easy setup—making it one of the best value mattresses I’ve tested.

I’m excited to be partnering with another Minnesota-based company, it® bed by Sleep Number, to share why this mattress stands out. From the first night, it felt like a dream: supportive, comfortable, and surprisingly customizable. My partner Mark highlighted the same strengths—comfort, flexibility, technology, and useful sleep analytics—all of which sum up our experience perfectly.

The it® bed brings a modern approach to mattress design. Everything is controlled through a smartphone app, including independent firmness adjustments for each side of the mattress. That means couples can each select their preferred firmness level—soft on one side, firmer on the other—without compromise. The app also delivers robust sleep data using SleepIQ® technology: a SleepIQ® score (0–100), heart rate, breathing rate, time spent in deep versus restless sleep, and the ability to set sleep goals. For anyone who cares about improving sleep quality, those insights are incredibly useful.

it® bed’s Amazing Features

  • Independent firmness adjustment for both sides of the bed.
  • Complete bed control from your smartphone app.
  • SleepIQ® Technology tracks sleep quality and provides a SleepIQ® score.
  • Compatible with many popular fitness trackers to consolidate health data.

The queen-sized it® bed retails at $1,099, which is a very competitive price for a mattress that combines adjustable comfort and advanced sleep tracking. If you’re in the market for a new mattress, this one is worth considering for both its tech features and overall comfort.

My Experience

One of the biggest advantages of the it® bed was how fast and simple the setup was. The bed and frame arrive in compact boxes and require no tools. Assembly literally took about 10 minutes: slot the frame pieces together, place the mattress on top, zip a few components into place, and plug in the base. No screws, no truck, no heavy lifting—just a quick setup and you’re ready to enjoy better sleep.

Receiving a mattress in a box remains one of the most convenient delivery formats. From past experience with traditional mattress shopping, I appreciate not having to wrestle a bulky mattress into a car or borrow a truck. If you prefer to try a mattress before buying, many Sleep Number stores showcase the it® bed so you can test firmness settings and get a walkthrough of the app’s features and sleep analytics in person.

Mark and I found our preferred settings were very close: I sleep best at a 65 on the it® bed scale and he prefers a 70. For reference, the mattress leans slightly toward a softer feel, which suits me as a fan of plush mattresses. I plan to publish a follow-up post diving deeper into the app, the SleepIQ® data, and what I’ve learned about my sleep patterns over several weeks—so stay tuned.

Beyond the mattress itself, I also wanted to share a short bedtime stretch routine that helps me unwind and settle into restorative sleep. These gentle stretches work perfectly on your bed and are a calming way to transition from the day to a restful night.

Soothing Bedtime Stretches

Cleanse your body before bedtime with these soothing, gentle stretches. All you need is your bed, a calm playlist, and a relaxed mind.

Child’s Pose

Open your knees wide and let your chest rest on the bed. Extend your arms overhead and rest your forehead down. Breathe slowly; with each exhale, sink gently deeper into the posture.

Gentle Twist (Left & Right)

Begin seated with legs long. Bend the left knee and place the foot to the outside of the right leg. Lengthen the spine, place the left hand behind you and the right elbow on the outside of the left knee. On the exhale, twist gently to the left. Repeat on the other side to balance both sides of the body.

Easy Neck Stretch (Left & Right)

Seated comfortably, bring the head slowly to the left and use the right hand to add a gentle press for a deeper stretch in the neck. Breathe calmly and repeat on the other side.

Cat Pose

Start in tabletop with shoulders over wrists and hips over knees. On the inhale, round the spine upward like a cat, pressing through the hands and knees and feeling a gentle stretch across the back.

Cow Pose

From tabletop, on the exhale drop the belly and lift the chest slightly, drawing the shoulder blades together for a gentle spinal extension.

Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle)

Lie on your back, bring the soles of your feet together, and let the knees fall open. Place one hand on your belly and the other on your heart. Close your eyes and breathe softly as you relax into the posture.

Cleanse your body before bedtime with these soothing, gentle bedtime stretches. All you need is your bed, a chill playlist, and a centered heart.
