What You Need to Make Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs

Air Fryer

Any countertop air fryer will work. Keep in mind that models vary in size and performance, so you may need to experiment slightly with timing to get your desired yolk texture. For best results, choose a fryer that lets you set the temperature to 300°F (150°C).

Large Eggs

This recipe uses large eggs. Fresh eggs tend to produce the best texture and flavor, though you can use organic, free-range, white, brown, or speckled eggs—just note that cook times will vary with egg size and starting temperature.

  • free-range
  • white, brown, or speckled

Tip: Egg Size Matters

If you use small, medium, or extra-large eggs, expect the cook times below to change. Adjust by a minute or two as needed.

A Bowl of Ice Water

Prepare an ice bath in a medium bowl using ice and cold water. This stops the cooking process immediately and makes peeling much easier.

How to Make Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs

Preheat Air Fryer

Preheat the air fryer to 300ºF (about 150ºC). Carefully place eggs in a single layer inside the basket, making sure they do not touch for even cooking.

Note: Depending on the size of your air fryer, you can usually double the batch as long as eggs remain in a single layer and aren’t touching.

Cook to Preference

Cooking time determines yolk texture. Use the guide below to choose the right time for your preference:

  • 8–9 minutes: Soft-boiled — yolk is bright yellow and runny.
  • 9–11 minutes: Jammy — yolk is creamy with a slightly soft center.
  • 11–13 minutes: Hard-boiled — yolk is fully set and tender.

Ice Water Bath

As soon as the eggs finish cooking, transfer them immediately to the ice bath and let them chill for 5 minutes. This preserves a bright yellow yolk, stops carryover cooking, and helps separate the shell from the egg for easier peeling.

Peel & Enjoy

Crack eggs gently on the countertop to loosen the shell and peel them under running water if needed. Discard shells or compost them. Serve with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, or use in recipes.

Pro Tip: Cracking the egg on the counter and rolling it lightly can help loosen the shell. If peeling is difficult, try peeling under a little running water to help separate the membrane.
