Minnetonka Orchards: A Girls’ Day Out in Minnesota

Hello, my favorite people! If you’re new to the Minnesota Series, this is where I highlight a favorite spot in the Twin Cities area and share why it’s worth visiting. Today’s stop is the lovely Minnetonka Orchards, located in Minnetrista, MN, roughly 35 miles west of Minneapolis.

It had been far too long since I did something just with the girls, so a few of us carved out an afternoon to head west for fresh apples, cider, and — naturally — some photos. I love spending time with Brooke because she has a knack for finding the charm in every setting. Even the most ordinary backdrop becomes adorable through her lens. Kate (aka @KateWCCO) is my reporter friend and unofficial therapist, and she and Brooke are friends too, which made our group feel effortless and fun.

I’m a big fan of U-pick apples, especially in Minnesota where apple varieties thrive. There’s something extra satisfying about choosing fruit right off the tree, and locally grown apples always taste fresher. Minnetonka Orchards is an ideal destination for a date, a girls’ day out, or a family outing. The property is also available for private events — you can even host a wedding on the beautiful grounds.

The orchard grows a wide range of varieties, including Sweet Tango, Zestar, Honeycrisp, and Haralson. It’s open seven days a week starting at 10 AM, and entry is free. The farm spans about 12 acres of trees, with both U-pick rows and pre-picked bags available. It’s a family-owned and -operated orchard that’s been welcoming visitors since 1972 — a real local treasure.

We visited when the leaves were at peak color (about two weeks ago) and the scenery was just stunning — cool enough for jeans and warm enough for a t-shirt. I picked up a bag of Honeycrisp, my go-to for baking apple crisp. Speaking of which, apple crisp is hands down my favorite fall dessert. It’s an easy homemade treat and a perfect excuse to top it with ice cream.

After wandering through the rows and taking turns on the tire swing, we climbed up to the tree deck to enjoy the view. The fall foliage was spectacular — the kind of place you want to sit quietly for a few minutes and soak it in. I was a little bummed the Brat House wasn’t open that day (true Wisconsin girl over here), but the cider and good company more than made up for it.

Writing this now makes me nostalgic — half the leaves were gone just two weeks after our visit, a reminder that fall’s brilliant colors are fleeting. If you’re planning a trip next season, aim for peak foliage for the best views and photo opportunities. Bring comfortable shoes for walking the orchard paths, a jacket that layers easily, and a camera to capture the moments.

Until next year, Minnetonka Orchards — you’ve earned a permanent spot on my fall favorites list. PS: All photos featured here were taken by the talented Brooke Alexandra Photography, naturally.
