Recipe of the Month
The May 2021 recipe is our Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Banana Nice Cream — a creamy, dairy-free treat made with frozen bananas, milk, peanut butter, and chocolate chips. It’s naturally vegan and gluten-free, yet rich and satisfying.

All About Banana Nice Cream
Banana nice cream mimics the texture and flavor of traditional ice cream while using wholesome ingredients. The base is simply frozen bananas blended to a smooth, scoopable consistency. You can customize it with add-ins like nut butter, chocolate, fruit, or spices.
What is banana nice cream? It’s a frozen dessert made by blending frozen banana slices until they become creamy. It can be enjoyed immediately as a soft-serve or frozen briefly for a firmer texture.
This version pairs peanut butter and chocolate chips for a classic flavor combination that feels indulgent without the dairy.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Frozen bananas (sliced or whole)
- Milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)
- Peanut butter (or alternative nut/seed butter)
- Chocolate chips (dairy-free if desired)
Tools You’ll Need
The key equipment is a high-speed blender or food processor. Either will produce a smooth, creamy texture when the frozen banana is processed until there are no lumps.
Recipe Tips
Frozen bananas: We recommend slicing bananas before freezing so they blend more easily. Whole frozen bananas can also work but may take longer to process.
Nut butter: If you’re allergic to peanuts or prefer another flavor, substitute almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter.
Blending: Pulse and scrape down the sides as needed. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth for the best texture.
Serving texture: For a soft-serve consistency serve immediately. For firmer ice cream, place the blended nice cream in the freezer for 30–60 minutes and scoop when set.
